Pakistan culture
Because most of it's population are Muslims, the life of the Pakistanis
is ruled by the Islam, their religion. They have to pray everyday, five
times per day, facing to Mecca. For them Friday is a Holy day the Koran
offer them guidance. Ramadan is also an Islam obligation. During Ramadan
(one month) they fast until dusk each day.
Family is also very important. The children respect their parents very
much and it is very common that in the same house live the three
generations at the same time: the grandparents, parents and kids. They
have many children because they think that kids are a gift from Allah
for them. Even in the present the Pakistanis hold on their traditions:
the marriages are arranged and when a male baby is born, it will be
circumcised. Rich families have servants to take care of them and the
house. Nepotism is viewed as a positive thing. They think their business
will grow because they hire only people (their relatives) that trust.
Pakistanis must show respect to those that are older and with a higher
rank. Those are also the ones that take the decisions.
Food shows very well the mixture of culture Pakistan haves. Like other
Muslims, Pakistanis are not allowed to eat pork and drink alcohol.
Instead they eat chicken and beef, with rice in form of biryani.
Pakistanis have their traditional bread named naan. The desert is formed
by Mithai. The most popular drink is tea, they will usually serve it
with milk or sugar. Also you should know that you cannot smoke in public
places.
The traditional clothes of the Pakistanis people is called Shalwar
Qameez. It is used by both women and men and it looks like a dress, but
with baggy pants. The male Shalwar Qameez has also a collar and it is
accessorized with buttons. It will usually be in very string colors.
Instead the female version is in more feminine colors and embroidered.
In the summer they wear a lighter version of Shalwar Qameez and in the
winter a wool type of Shalwar Qameez.
Socialisation is also very important, so when two females meet they hug
and kiss and whem two males meet they will shake hands. Almost every
time they will ask each other details about family or health. Their
titles are so important to them that when they call each other, they
will use both the person's title and then his surname.
